Lord Mayor for the Day winner, Ryan Jackson, tells us about his day.
Hi my name is Ryan Jackson I'm 13 years old and I live in Canterbury. On the 26th October 2008 I was Lord Mayor for the day.

I was picked up by the Lord Mayor in her chauffeur driven car. We then went to the council to see Central Control where they watch the CCTV cameras. We could see people walking by in town. The people that work there told me their job is to look out for danger and crimes. Then we went to the canteen and met the Head of Community Development. She told me about the youth clubs the council runs. |
|
After that we went to see the local recycling centre. We saw how they crush and smash hard rubbish. When we got back to Canterbury we visited The Guildhall where council meetings are held. It looked like a church. I sat in the Lord Mayor's chair and banged the gavel. I said that I would say no more school for anyone if this was a real council meeting. |
Ryan and the Lord Mayor are given a tour of Hersden recycling centre. |

After that, we went to Tower House and I tried on the Lord Mayor's robes. They were very heavy and sometimes the Lord Mayor has to wear them for hours. For dinner we went to 'Marlowe's' and I ate spicy beef which was very hot.
Then at the end of the evening we visited the Army Cadets. I tried out a gun.
I had a great day being Lord Mayor and I want to thank Steve the cameraman, Nicky and the Lord Mayor. Bye
